Continue reading »]]> SugarPine is looking forward to a great new festival: Alberta Rose Bluegrass Festival, Feb. 8 – 10. We’ll be playing Saturday evening at 7 p.m.

Please come out to support local bluegrass and this great new Portland venue, which already has hosted such great acts as the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience and Jim Hurst and Rob Ickes. And be sure to get on its mailing list, so you can learn about the terrific national acts coming to this lovely theater.

We are so pleased to be a part of this brand new event. Thanks to John Malloy for inviting us.

Our CD is in the final stages. We hope to have it ready by our next big show — the OBA Salem Chapter Gospel Show, April 28.

Several months ago, we attended our first trade show, aimed at event managers. We got to showcase on the big stage and meet event planners for all over Oregon.  It got us thinking about all the parties we could play at — and all the fun we could have sharing people’s special events.  We’re looking forward to playing weddings, even though Yvonne won’t let us play at hers.

Continue reading »]]> We’re closing in on a CD.  Anna spent last weekend doing her, “Just because I’m young doesn’t mean I don’t know my way around the fiddle” thing, laying down her leads and backup parts.  Next up, work on the Yvonne/Matt/Anna trios.  Followed by what at least one person considers the most fun — the liner notes and photos.

We’re looking forward to playing some of our long-time favorite festivals this summer:  The High and Dry Festival in Bend and The Tygh Valley Festival in Wasco County. We’re also looking forward to a brand new festival, Bluegrass on the Green, in Mountlake Terrace Washington. Who knew they allowed banjos on golf courses?

Continue reading »]]> Thanks to everyone who contributed to our Kickstarter campaign!  We made our goal, and we’re going back in the studio with the amazing Dale Adkins to complete our first CD.

Steve and Matt will be laying down more tracks on mid-May. We’ve already got most of eight songs recorded, and we’re looking forward to completing it soon.

Meanwhile, we’ve had a blast performing in the Portland area.  We celebrated the Wearin’ of the Green bluegrass style with Wayward Vessel and Sleepy Eyed John at Beateverville in North Portland (the only place we know that has a 1960 Metro as a flower pot).

In April, we performed at Vic’s Guitar Cave in Forest Grove, where Steve Blanchard, the Joizey Cowboy, teaches guitar lessons.  We packed the place, and look forward to returning soon.

The bluegrass road is a long and mysterious one. We’re looking forward to seeing where it takes us next.
